Question Where has money given to McDermott for planning funeral expenses gone from people and why funeral home auctioned off last week? - (Bonnie Ferro)
I would like too apologize for the comment that was made about my grandmothers funeral (McCullen) in the review that was posted a few months ago!! First and foremost my grandmother was a private woman. She didnt wont a big church funeral just something small and with family. She only wanted a graveside service which was done. And Smith Funeral Services made sure that these things were meant. Even down too picking out my grandmother plot. They did a wonderful job and my mother, aunts, uncles and myself were very happy with there work. To - Smith Funeral Home I do apologize for the negive comment that was made towards your business... Just know that the ones that were there making arrangements were happy with everything that y'all did and that is all that matters!! And Again Thank You For Everything. C.Stone - (Apology from the McCullen family..)
Vondel Smith Funeral Home on South Western handled my mother-in-laws funeral recently and I cannot say enough good things about the way Lisa, Jennie and Alex and other staff treated our family. I highly recommend them. - (Linda Rodgers)
The Sanchez Funeral Home did an excellent service for my grandfather. The facility is very clean, and the service they offer are the best. Everyone is very helpful. There is always someone available to help you, even after hours.
At Sanchez they treat you like family.
I would like to thank all the staff, for all the work they did.

TLPickens Mortuary Services has been there for our family in some of our worst moments. The loss my grandmother, Omega Williams. The sudden deaths of my cousin Darian Clark and dear friend Elaine Wright. Almost unable to focus, Mr.Pickens was outstanding with all the arrangements. I can't thank him enough for all he has done. - (Tami Williams)
Death, although a natural and accepted part of life is not something we are prepared to handle alone. Being an only child whose mother had already died, when my grandmother died a few months ago, my daughter and myself found strength, understanding and yes, compassion in the most unexpected place. My daughter, Alana, was the pillar of the family at this time.
She held us all together! But to my surprise and delight, God blessed this family with a blessing in the form of Mr. Don Brown. Mr. Brown is a businessman, of course. Mr. Brown is also a man of much compassion and understanding. He stood by this family and helped us through a very difficult time. We made informed decisions. He forced nothing on us we did not want. We were given choices. He led us through a very sad time without making us feel sad, frightened or just lacking of knowledge. When we were about to loose it at times, he would redirect us to happier thoughts of times with our loved one. Mr. Brown never made this family feel only the wealthy could have beautiful services. And not once did he attempt to force on us what we could not afford. The service was beautiful and all of his employees were professional in dress and behavior and all possessed a compassionate swagger that touched this family's heart and will always be remembered. I recommend this company 100% - (Rita Wiggins)
8/2/13 I would not recommend this funeral home to anyone. Communication between Schleifer and my family was poor. Schleifer would only speak with family regarding decisions if confronted. He thought that he should speak with the deceased's friend for decision making. Plus, I am still waiting for a corrected death certificate from 4/26/13 due to Ted Schleifer's error and he is doing nothing to try and expedite things so my aunt can get what is due to her, but Schleifer made sure he was paid upfront for his services (if that is what you want to call them.) My advice is to stay clear of this funeral home and director. - (Terrie Hughes)
Good experience, better than expected from what I have been through with other places. Cost less than expected too. Wish we had gone there with previous deaths in family. - (Fran Nozwikowski)
DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS MAN! It's a good thing his primary customers are already dead, considering how he treats his live customers. In fact if you are unlucky enough to rent housing from him, you and your family may soon wind up as a customer at his funeral home.
Perhaps that's the real reason he painted over and then refused to deal with *black mold* in a home he rents to a family with young children, two of whom have serious health problems. After consistently harassing (as in, peeking into their windows, sending *late-night* texts demanding to come over right then, ETC) he decided to tell cut off their water with NO warning.
He is to pay utilities, the family has always paid their rent, this was uncalled for and illegal, especially in the middle of summer!!! The diabetic child cannot wash his hands before testing his blood glucose levels. He refuses to be reasonable and turn the water back on. Hmm, is business really that bad that you have to drum up more customers?"

We laid out my Uncle at this place and it was disgusting to say the least! The smell of Cigarettes was over whelming when you walked in the door and it is very dated. The couches were stained and all sagging and the carpeting was worn out. My Aunt who is elderly asked if I would help her and the Gentleman was kind to her but he kept switching prices midstream she was confused and I ask that he please leave the room to discuss further. I spoke to my Aunt and as I looked over by the door he was standing and eavesdropping. Needless to say we left it was very unsettling experience. I cannot remember his name but he was older wore glasses and smelled of Cigars. Outside the place looks lovely but once inside it is a timewarp - (Peter)
Recently had an uncle pass in southern California and Hems Brothers went above and beyond in their handling of my uncles service and cremation. The lady on the phone that spoke with myself and my mother was very pleasant and helpful in providing us with all the information we needed. Even went as far as too call my mother and let her know her flowers had arrived in time for the service. Would highly recommend them in anyone's time of need. 5 Star. I did not catch the young ladies name but she should deserves a raise. Thanks again! - (Fairmont WV)
Very disappointing service! Paul Shaker turned out to be a very arrogant and unprofessional funeral director, and he over charged us the amount originally agreed upon. During the funeral service, only four ushers from their funeral home came and could barely hold up the casket, leaving many of our family members gasping and hoping our (petite sized) loved one would not be dropped! If you are researching a professional funeral home, I would look elsewhere! - (HM22136)
Lola Howerton, is a pittiful excuse for a funeral director. She help to make my brothers funeral a total disaster. She never showed up at his grave side She continually made matters worse by discrespecting and being rude to several family members. THANKS YOU LOLA FOR MAKING A MY BROTHERS FUNERAL THE LAUGHING STOCK OF THE COMMUNITY. - (lewis)
To the Joseph Lorentz family: My prayers and sympathy goes out to your entire family. I had the pleasure to work with Joe (Lucky) I called him that for years in Waterville. We worked at the VFW He was a great guy and always pleasant to work with, also play Bingo with. Have lots of good memories to remember him by, and if you do this memories will help during your difficult time. He was well liked by many. - (Shari Quast 203 1st St. Elysian, Mn.)
