Funeral Home Reviews
Schenectady, New York
I am from Florida and my mother passed away in Schenectady, New York. Being from out of state, I was very concerned about who would take care of my mother's remains. I had very little time because I didn't want her in the morgue. I searched and visited many funeral homes in the area and couldn't find what I was looking for, a God based place. I felt that all that I visited were just a business and wasn't sure that my mother would be treated with the respect that she deserved. Finally, God sent me to De Legge Funeral Home. When I rang the door bell a nun answered the door, which I was later told was not the norm. With a warm touch, she held my hand and asked me to come in. I felt that my prayers were answered. Then I met with Mark Laszczynski, who has such a gentle way and understanding of the grief process for the loved ones left behind. He assisted me with the financial aspects and made it very easy. After talking to him about how I would like things done, he immediately left to pick up my mother so that she wasn't left any longer at the hospital. They placed her under a large cross, at the feet of Jesus, with her head resting on a silk pillow. There was to be no viewing and her remains were to be cremated. This is just the way that they treat loved ones. I am so happy and relieved that I found them. They are very respectful and professional. I felt at peace and I'm sure that my mother did too.

This by far is one of the worst funeral home I had to deal with. The only day he was nice was when he came by to pick up my grandmother. After the contract was signed he was rude to my family and friends completely UNPROFESSIONAL. I would never EVER recommend this place to anyone and hope he loses business. It is a very difficult time when a family member passes and the people running this funeral home does NOT understand that. I truly hope people read this before choosing this funeral home.

In contacting this funeral home with regard to the burial of a Veteran, I found them to be very elusive in providnig information to the point that they did not want the American Legion to attend the burial because "there will not be any services". When I told them we just want to pay our respects regardless of the lack of services, I received the same response - "there are not going to be any services - we just drop him off and the Veterans cemetery buries him at their leisure".

I was honored to have my wife's funeral service handled by this funeral home. The facility is a historic house in a historic town. The house is kept in A-1 condition and feels like a home not a funeral chapel. Many of the folks that attended the calling hours commented on how the presentation was as it made you think your were just visiting an old freind. We also had several small childern in the family who were there and the staff took care of thier needs by providing coloring books and reading material in a seperate room off from the main viewing room. They attended to the childern while the family was allowed to visit with guests. I was very very impressed by the professionalism of the staff from the time they came to pick up the remains to the constent contct with us to know if there was anything that could be done. I would highly recommend this funeral home to anyone who is looking to pre arrange a funeral or have the need for one at the time of the passing of a loved one.
