Steer clear of Clines Mortuary! Someone very close to me recently passed away. Cookie Cline was hired to do the funeral and make the arrangements, typical funeral director stuff. I should mention that my family is far from 'well-off', so we put together a pretty modest funeral and bought the casket elsewhere. We were charged nearly $9k for his services, which had to be paid in full before anything happened, forcing us to take out a loan until the insurance arrives. This was non negotiable, and he already had our loved one. Then the night of the wake... It was held in Victoria, where the paneling on the walls is still from the 70's, end tables and desks were all water stained with the finish coming off, and the mens room was out of order. I along with numerous people heard Cookie cussing freely, being extremely condescending when asked questions, also being exceptionally rude to mothers with fussy babies or children (almost yelling), and telling jokes about his dick and circumcision. On top of all this, he began taking down flowers at 8:30 and rudely forced us to leave the funeral home at 8:37pm. ("Time to go to your cars guys. Time to go home.") That doesn't seem like a big deal until you think about the few *minutes* you have left to see someone you cared about forever. The day of the funeral, he knowingly allowed someone to 'sneak' something into the casket without the spouses consent, which wasn't realized until later in the day after it was all said and done. Immediately after finishing services at the cemetery (which was unmowed with grass 8" tall, pallbearers nearly tripped multiple times), Cookie instructed us all to leave, citing the luncheon as his reason. He literally told someone to grab the sobbing spouses wheelchair and take her to the car because people are waiting on her. Overall, my family paid Cookie Cline almost $9k (services only, casket not included) for an outdated, unmaintained facility where he was extremely rude and disrespectful while putting forth an unacceptably minimal amount of work or care. All this being said, I beg you to reconsider choosing Clines Mortuary should you find yourself in a position that requires the type of services he offers... This is far from the mortuary Harold Cline operated. For the sake and dignity of your loved one, find a different funeral director. Please share this so others know what they might expect when hiring Cookie Cline.

I am writing on behalf of the family of deceased, Larry S Edwards. I came to Chicago, from Ohio, to attend the funeral of Larry Edwards. I accompanied my family to your facility to help with the arrangements for Larry's funeral, on several occasions. I just wanted to tell you how impressed we were with the professionalism of your entire staff. With so much involved with the loss of a loved one and then having to plan a funeral, it was so comforting to walk into your offices and leave feeling as if the funeral was one less thing we had to stress about. We felt that Gatlings would take care of not only our loved one, but our family as well. The staff at Gatlings did exactly that. Your drivers were always on time and courteous. Your entire staff were extremely well dressed. Your facility was immaculate and all of your workers were very well organized. They were also very patient, especially at the end of the funeral when everyone was saying their goodbyes to loved ones, your driver said for us to take as long as we needed. Your drivers assisted everyone in and out of the cars, they drove as if they were carrying precious cargo. We never felt rushed or as though we were an inconvenience in any way. Your office staff were extremely patient with my family members. We made several changes to the obituary after the draft had been printed. Your staff continually told us, 'We are here to do whatever you need, we'll take care of you.' Our loved one, Larry Edwards, had been very sick for a very long time. When we viewed the body, everyone kept saying how peaceful he looked and what a wonderful job Gatlings had done. We cannot thank you enough for taking care of our loved one and our family. By the time our experience with Gatlings came to an end, we felt as though we had gained a new family. Please share this letter with your employees. I have attended several funerals at your chapel within several months. Facilities are excellent but would like to make a suggestion. For the funerals that have an overflow into the foyer there should be some kind of audio so all can hear the services. Also, additional chairs set up for old people like me who cannot stand for a long period of time. Only suggestions but sure would help.

Death, although a natural and accepted part of life is not something we are prepared to handle alone. Being an only child whose mother had already died, when my grandmother died a few months ago, my daughter and myself found strength, understanding and yes, compassion in the most unexpected place. My daughter, Alana, was the pillar of the family at this time. She held us all together! But to my surprise and delight, God blessed this family with a blessing in the form of Mr. Don Brown. Mr. Brown is a businessman, of course. Mr. Brown is also a man of much compassion and understanding. He stood by this family and helped us through a very difficult time. We made informed decisions. He forced nothing on us we did not want. We were given choices. He led us through a very sad time without making us feel sad, frightened or just lacking of knowledge. When we were about to loose it at times, he would redirect us to happier thoughts of times with our loved one. Mr. Brown never made this family feel only the wealthy could have beautiful services. And not once did he attempt to force on us what we could not afford. The service was beautiful and all of his employees were professional in dress and behavior and all possessed a compassionate swagger that touched this family's heart and will always be remembered. I recommend this company 100%
